An Air Nelson de Havilland Dash 8-300 on behalf of Air New Zealand, registration ZK-NEO performing flight NZ-8074 from Invercargill to Wellington (New Zealand) with 38 passengers and 3 crew, was enroute at FL170 near Christchurch (New Zealand) when the crew decided to divert to Christchurch due to an engine problem. The aircraft landed safely.

The remainder of the flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights.

The airline reported the aircraft had a "bit of an issue", landed in Christchurch without further incident and is being checked by engineers.
