An ANZ Air New Zealand (former Air Nelson) de Havilland Dash 8-300, registration ZK-NEO performing flight NZ-8207 from Auckland to Blenheim (New Zealand), was enroute at FL220 nearing the top of descent when the crew shut the left hand engine (PW123) down. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Blenheim's runway 24.

A passenger reported after landing the left engine stopped just prior to the descent into Blenheim. The aircraft was met by firefighters, who however did not need to intervene finding no trace of heat or fire. The captain subsequently entered the cabin and told the passengers that the engine was shut down as a precaution due to a high temperature.

The return flight NZ-8212 was cancelled. The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Blenheim about 19 hours after landing.
