An Orenair Boeing 737-800, registration VQ-BIZ performing flight R2-5814 from Moscow Domodedovo to Tomsk (Russia) with 115 passengers and 6 crew, was on approach to Tomsk maintaining 600 meters when the crew aborted the approach reporting flaps problems and decided to divert to Novosibirsk, climbed the aircraft to FL130 and landed safely in Novosibirsk at a higher than normal speed.

The West Siberian Transport Prosecution Office opened an investigation. The crew diverted to Novosibirsk's Tolmachevo Airport due to the longer runways available there, the office added.

Tomsk features a runway 02/20 of 2500 meters/8200 feet length, Novosibirsk offers runways 07/25 and 16/34 of 3600 meters/11,800 feet length each.
