A Republic Airlines Embraer ERJ-175 on behalf of United, registration N728YX performing flight YX-3553/UA-3553 from Newark,NJ (USA) to Toronto,ON (Canada), had landed on Toronto's runway 24L and was taxiing towards the terminal via taxiway D6. The aircraft was instructed to hold short of runway 24R at D6 (at the runway end about 2900 meters/9500 feet down the runway), the crew read the instruction back correctly.

An Air Canada Boeing 787-900 registration C-FGDX performing flight AC-878 from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Zurich (Switzerland), was cleared for takeoff from runway 24R and was accelerating, when tower observed the Embraer nearing the hold short line without slowing down. Tower issued a stop instruction to the Embraer.

NAV Canada reported the Embraer stopped with the nose across the hold short line. The Boeing 787 continued takeoff.

The Canadian TSB tweeted in the evening of Aug 14th 2017 without providing further details (causing a lot of stir across the Internet), that they were responding to a runway incursion at Toronto Airport and dispatched a team of investigators.

On Aug 22nd 2017 the TSB reported that no investigation was opened. The Embraer was instructed to hold short of runway 24R at D6, tower observed the aircraft approaching the hold short line at about 20 knots and issued a STOP instruction. The Embraer came to a stop across the hold short line. The Boeing overflew the intersection runway 24R and taxiway D6.
