A Swiss Avro RJ-100, registration HB-IYQ performing flight LX-1109 from Munich (Germany) to Zurich (Switzerland) with 67 passengers and 4 crew, had departed Munich with the yellow hydraulic system reservoir being half full. The aircraft performed the flight to Zurich for a safe landing on runway 14 about 35 minutes after departure. Following arrival at the gate, while passengers disembarked, passengers complained about eye and throat irritations, a number of passengers coughed. When the captain entered the cabin from the cockpit, he felt the same symptoms after a short period of time. He declared the aircraft not airworthy and informed maintenance.

Switzerland's SUST released their final summarily report in German reporting that a leak at a tube connector at a vent of the anti-skid system, used during braking, had occurred. The hydraulic fluid had entered the cabin air causing the contamination of breathing air in the cabin.

The SUST reported that the hydraulic quantity of the yellow system was about medium quantity when the crew checked the system during the previous flight to Munich, no hydraulic fluid was added in Munich. The quantity was found reduced to one third after arrival at Zurich.

The SUST reported that the hydraulic fluid was able to distribute into the cabin due to the fact that the hydraulic reservoir is located in a pressurized compartment, the air of which mixes with cabin air.
