An Air Nelson de Havilland Dash 8-300 on behalf of Air New Zealand, registration ZK-NEZ performing flight NZ-8242 from Palmerston North to Hamilton (New Zealand) with 30 people on board, was on approach to Hamilton when the crew went around from about 1500 feet MSL due to an unsafe gear indication. The aircraft entered a hold at 4000 feet for about an hour while the crew worked the checklists and attempted to resolve the problem, however, without success. The aircraft subsequently commenced the approach to Hamilton, the gear was seen down in position, and the aircraft landed safely about 75 minutes after the go around.

The airline reported the crew received an unsafe gear indication. However, it turned out the gear was in position, it therefore appears the issue was with the indication itself.
