Sunstate DH8D at Sydney on Dec 9th 2016, climbed above cleared altitude causing loss of separation

A Sunstate de Havilland Dash 8-400 on behalf of Qantas, registration VH-LQG performing flight QF-2004 from Sydney,NS to Tamworth,NS (Australia), was climbing out of Sydney cleared to climb to 5000 feet when the aircraft climbed through 5000 feet. Departure reacted instructing the aircraft to descend to 5000 feet again, the aircraft stopped the climb at 5500 feet and descended. Approach control reacted as well and instructed an Air New Zealand Boeing 777-200, registration ZK-OKF performing flight NZ-119 from Auckland (New Zealand) to Sydney, cleared to descend to 6000 feet to stop descent immediately. The conflict was resolved when the Dash 8 levelled at 5000 feet again, the Boeing 777 continued their descent. Both aircraft continued to their destinations for safe landings.

Australia's TSB reported the Dash climbed above assigned level causing a loss of separation with the ANZ Boeing 777. The occurrence was rated an incident and is being investigated by the ATSB.
