A Sunstate Airlines de Havilland Dash 8-400, registration VH-QOC performing flight QF-1424 from Canberra,AC to Sydney,NS (Australia), landed on Sydney's runway 34L and was in the landing roll.

A Qantas Boeing 737-800, registration VH-XZG performing flight QF-124 from Queenstown (New Zealand) to Sydney,NS (Australia), had landed on Sydney's runway 34R and was taxiing to the apron, when ATC cleared the aircraft to cross runway 34L. The controller noticed the resulting conflict and advised both crews, the Boeing stopped after the holding poing and short of the runway edge.

The ATSB rated the occurrence a serious incident and opened an investigation.
