An Open Skies France Boeing 757-200 in colours and on behalf of British Airways, registration F-HAVI performing flight EC-8001/BA-8001 from Paris Orly (France) to Newark,NJ (USA) with 89 passengers and 5 crew, was enroute at FL340 about 700nm west of Shannon (Ireland) when the crew received a gear well fire indication, turned the aircraft around and diverted to Shannon. On approach to Shannon the crew advised the indication had ceased, it was one of the main gear wheel wells, not the nose nose gear. The aircraft performed a low approach to Shannon's runway 24 to have the landing gear and gear well inspected from the ground, ground reported seeing no anomalies, both left and right main gear were down although difficult to see. The aircraft positioned for another approach and landed safely on runway 24 about 1:50 hours after turning around and stopped on the runway for an inspection by emergency services and installation of gear pins. The aircraft subsequently taxied to the apron.
