A LAN Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration CC-CXH performing flight LA-2706 from Lima (Peru) to Madrid,SP (Spain) with 224 people on board, was enroute at FL340 about 300nm west of Faro (Portugal) when the crew reported the failure of an engine (CF6) and decided to divert to Faro. The aircraft drifted down to FL290 and landed safely on Faro's runway 10 about one hour after leaving FL340.
