A LAN Airlines Boeing 767-300 on behalf of LAN Ecuador, registration CC-CXH performing flight XL-539 (dep Jan 3rd) from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Guayaquil (Ecuador) with 238 passengers, was descending through about FL300 towards Guayaquil when the crew received a low oil pressure indication for the left hand engine (CF6) together with indication of strong engine vibrations and shut the engine down. The crew declared emergency and continued for a safe landing on Guayaquil's runway 21 about 20 minutes later.
