A Virgin America Airbus A320-200, registration N281VA performing flight VX-50 from Honolulu,HI to San Francisco,CA (USA), was enroute at FL350 over the Pacific Ocean about 460nm northeast of Honolulu when the crew decided to return to Honolulu reporting a cargo smoke indication. The aircraft maintained FL350 on the way back and landed safely back on Honolulu's runway 08L about 60 (!) minutes later. The crew requested emergency services to check the right hand side of the aircraft for any indication of fire, heat or smoke and to not open the cargo doors. Following an inspection by emergency services not revealing any indication of fire, smoke or heat the aircraft vacated the runway and taxied to the apron with emergency services in trail.
