A Virgin America Airbus A320-200, registration N635VA performing flight VX-501 from New York JFK,NY to Fort Lauderdale,FL (USA), was on final approach to Fort Lauderdale's runway 10L when the left hand engine (CFM56) ingested a bird. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on runway 10L.

The FAA reported the #1 engine received damage as result of a bird strike on approach to Fort Lauderdale.

The occurrence aircraft was able to resume service 7 hours after landing.
