A Virgin America Airbus A320-200, registration N637VA performing flight VX-108 from Los Angeles,CA to Washington Dulles,DC (USA), was in the initial climb out of Los Angeles' runway 24L when the crew missed the hand off to departure. After hand off the crew advised one of the gear doors did not close, they were needing to return to Los Angeles, no emergency. The aircraft stopped the climb at 5000 feet and landed safely on Los Angeles' runway 25L about 20 minutes after departure.
