An Icelandair Boeing 757-200, registration TF-ISF performing flight FI-205 from Copenhagen (Denmark) to Keflavik (Iceland), was climbing out of Copenhagen's runway 22R when three loud bangs were emitted by an engine (RB211) prompting the crew to level off at 3000 feet, shut the engine down and return to Copenhagen for a safe landing on runway 22L about 18 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 757-200 registration TF-ISD reached Keflavik with a delay of 8:20 hours.

The airline confirmed an engine failure.
