An American Airlines Boeing 757-200, registration N605AA performing flight AA-675 from Miami,FL to Dallas Ft. Worth,TX (USA) with 189 people on board, was climbing through FL300 out of Miami, about 30nm east of Fort Myers,FL (USA), when the crew reported fumes on board and decided to divert to Fort Myers. On approach to Fort Myers the crew reported the fumes were getting stronger and requested parking as close as possible to the runway, so that people could disembark as quickly as possible other than evacuate. Being too high for a straight in to runway 24 approach control suggested and the crew accepted runway 06, where the aircraft landed safely about 15 minutes after leaving FL300 and taxied to the stand.

A replacement Boeing 757-200 departed Fort Myers 7.5 hours after landing and is estimated to reach Dallas with a delay of 7.5 hours.
