A United Boeing 737-900, registration N36444 performing flight UA-493 from Denver,CO to Las Vegas,NV (USA), was enroute at FL300 about 60nm southwest of Grand Junction,CO (USA) when the crew decided to turn around and divert to Grand Junction reporting a burning odour in the cabin. The aircraft landed safely on Grand Junction's runway 29 about 17 minutes later.

The airline reported the aircraft landed safely in Grand Junction to address an odour in the cabin. The passengers disembarked normally at the gate, a replacement aircraft was dispatched.

Passengers reported their screens began to flicker and then went dark, the smell of electrical burning developed, a distinct smell of an electrical fire occurred. The aircraft stopped on the runway, fire fighters inspected the aircraft from the outside and boarded the aircraft for inside checks.

A replacement Boeing 737-900 registration N37437 reached Las Vegas with a delay of about 6 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Grand Junction about 16 hours after landing.
