An American Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration N524UW performing flight AA-609 from Orlando,FL to Charlotte,NC (USA) with 167 people on board, was descending towards Charlotte when the crew reported an unpleasant odour on board, subsequently advising cabin crew were telling them about fumes on board causing discomfort to passengers and requesting to accelerate the descent and approach. They would proceed to the gate after landing though, they would not do anything unnecessary like an evacuation. The aircraft landed safely on Charlotte's runway 18R and taxied to the gate.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 12 hours before returning to service.
