A PIA Pakistan International Airlines Boeing 747-300, registration AP-BFU performing flight PK-7535 from Karachi (Pakistan) to Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) with 465 people on board, was climbing out of Karachi when the crew stopped the climb at FL100 reporting an #2 engine (RB211, left inboard) fire indication and shut the engine down. The aircraft landed safely back about 40 minutes after departure.

Following repairs the incident aircraft was able to depart with a delay of 9 hours.

The airline confirmed the crew observed an engine fire indication on engine #2, shut the engine down and returned to Karachi. Following maintenance checks the aircraft departed again.
