An American Airlines Boeing 757-200, registration N187AN performing flight AA-211 from Manchester,EN (UK) to New York JFK,NY (USA) with 154 passengers and 9 crew, was enroute at FL380 about 110nm northnortheast of Bangor,ME (USA) when the crew needed to shut the left hand engine (RB211) down due to a low oil quantity and subsequent low oil pressure indication. The aircraft diverted to Bangor for a safe landing on Bangor's runway 33 about 30 minutes later.

The remainder of the flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights.

The engine is being replaced.
