The flight and the return flight were cancelled.
The airline confirmed there was an air conditioning issue. The rotation needed to be cancelled. The passengers (both in Auckland and Tokyo) were taken to hotels and have been rebooked onto the next available service.
Nine of the 11 dreamliners of Air New Zealand are currently undergoing inspections in accordance with Airworthiness Directives, see News: EASA and FAA issue Airworthiness Directives on Boeing 787 engines.
