An ANZ Air New Zealand Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration ZK-MVQ performing flight NZ-5069 from Auckland to Nelson (New Zealand), was on approach to Nelson when the crew received a landing gear warning and went around. The crew subsequently decided to return to Auckland where the aircraft landed without further incident.

New Zealand's TAIC reported: "The Commission is investigating a serious incident involving an ATR 72-600 aeroplane, registration ZK-MVQ, operated by Air New Zealand, on 27 November 2025. The reported circumstances were that the commercial flight was on approach to Nelson Aerodrome when the flight crew received a landing gear warning and conducted a go-around. The aeroplane diverted to Auckland Aerodrome and landed safely."

On Dec 19th 2025 the TAIC added, that the aircraft was descending through 500 feet AGL on final approach at Nelson, when the crew received a general warning that the gear was not in the down position, shortly thereafter tower inquired with the crew about their gear status. The crew initiated a go around and due to the poor weather conditions at Nelson decided to return to Auckland. The TAIC annotated: "During the flight to Auckland, the crew reported in their log that the landing gear indication may have been misinterpreted by the captain due to glare when he checked it as part of the pre-landing checklist."

The return flight was cancelled, the aircraft resumed service about 90 minutes after landing in Auckland, then performed rotation NZ-5113/5114 to Palmerston North and then remained on the ground in Auckland for about 21 hours.
