AN ANZ Air New Zealand Airbus A320-200, registration ZK-OXD performing flight NZ-637 from Auckland to Queenstown (New Zealand), was climbing out of Auckland's runway 23L when the crew stopped the climb at FL080 reporting hydraulic problems and decided to return to Auckland for a safe landing on runway 23L about 50 minutes after departure.

The rotation (NZ-637 and NZ-634) was cancelled.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service about 20 hours after landing.
