A PSA Airlines Canadair CRJ-900 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N646NN performing flight AA-5478 from Philadelphia,PA to Memphis,TN (USA), was climbing out of Philadelphia's runway 27L when the crew stopped the climb at 5000 feet due to a problem with the landing gear and declared emergency. The aircraft entered a hold. A photo of the aircraft during the hold showed the nose landing gear extended but turned sideways by about 90 degrees. Later the crew positioned for an approach to runway 27L, on short final tower advised the landing gear appeared to be down. The aircraft landed safely on runway 27L and stopped on the runway. The aircraft was towed off the runway about 10 minutes after landing.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service about 24 hours after landing back.
