An American Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N388AA performing flight AA-64 from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Zurich (Switzerland), was enroute at FL350 about 165nm eastnortheast of New York when the crew decided to return to New York reporting they had an electrical problem that they didn't want to cross the Atlantic with. The aircraft landed safely back on New York's runway 31L about 50 minutes later.

A replacement Boeing 767-300 registration N342AN reached Zurich with a delay of 3:15 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in JFK about 20.5 hours after landing.
