A UPS United Parcel Service Airbus A300-600, registration N172UP performing freight flight 5X-671 from Springfield,MO to Louisville,KY (USA), was in the initial climb out of Springfield's runway 20 when the left hand engine (PW4158) ingested birds prompting the crew to stop the climb at 3000 feet and return to Springfield for a safe landing on runway 14 about 15 minutes after departure.

The FAA reported the left engine sustained unknown birdstrike damage.
