An Air Nelson de Havilland Dash 8-300 on behalf of ANZ Air New Zealand, registration ZK-NEF performing flight NZ-8736 from Blenheim to Wellington (New Zealand), was climbing out of Blenheim when the right hand engine (PW123) emitted creaking sounds followed by the crew shutting the engine down. The aircraft continued to Wellington for a safe landing about 20 minutes after departure.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Wellington about 38 hours after landing.

The airline reported the crew shut the engine down as a precaution due to an engineering issue.
