An Egypt Air Airbus A320-200, registration SU-GCA performing flight MS-879 from Cairo (Egypt) to Kano (Nigeria) with 114 passengers, was climbing out of Cairo towards cruise level above FL200 when the right hand engine (V2527) failed prompting the crew to shut the engine down and return to Cairo for a safe landing on Cairo's runway 05R about 50 minutes after departure.

A replacement Airbus A320-200 registration SU-GCC reached Kano with a delay of 4:20 hours.
