A Binter Canarias Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration EC-MMM performing positioning flight NT-1K from Valverde,CI to Tenerife Norte,CI (Spain) with 3 crew, diverted to Gran Canaria,CI (Spain) due to a problem with the left main gear. The crew prepared for a possible gear collapse on landing, landed the aircraft on the right main gear, lowered the nose gear and kept the left main gear airborne as long as practicable before lowering the left main gear onto the ground, too. The left main gear supported the aircraft, no smoke or sparks became visible. The aircraft rolled out without further incident.

The airline reported the crew detected a problem with the landing gear in flight, diverted to Gran Canaria and managed to resolve the situation. The airline expresses great satisfaction with the degree of preparation the crew used to resolve the situation with great professionalism. The aircraft is now being examined to determine the causes of the damage to the landing gear and repair the landing gear.

Earlier the aircraft had flown flight NT-655 from Tenerife Norte to Valverde but did not perform the return flight NT-656. Instead the aircraft departed for the positioning flight back to Tenerife.
