A SBA Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-83 on behalf of Aserca Airlines, registration YV481T performing flight R7-420 from Caracas (Venezuela) to Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) with 139 people on board, was descending towards Santo Domingo when the crew declared emergency. The aircraft continued for a safe landing at Santo Domingo.

The airline reported a mechanical problem towards the final stages of the flight prompted an emergency landing in Santo Domingo. Following examination the aircraft was able to return to service later the day.

Media in the Dominican Republic reported the aircraft suffered a hydraulic problem

Media in Venezuela reported the aircraft suffered a problem with one of the engines.

The return flight R7-421 was performed by SBA MD-83 YV-485T.

SBA Airlines and Aserca are in the process of a Merger, Aserca reported YV481T already as "their aircraft".
