An Azores Airlines (former SATA) Airbus A320-200, registration CS-TKP performing flight S4-134 from Lajes to Lisbon (Portugal) with 109 people on board, departed Lajes' runway 33 but reported a bird strike past the runway and resulting engine (CFM56) problems but declined to declare emergency. The aircraft returned to Lajes, on the way back the crew reported an engine failure, intercepted the localizer runway 15 and landed safely on runway 15 (winds at 6 knots from 190 degrees) about 15 minutes after departure and taxied to the apron.

The flight was cancelled.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for 24 hours, then performed the next day's flight S4-134.
