J-Air E170 at Osaka on May 11th 2016, bleed air leak twice

A J-Air Embraer ERJ-170 on behalf of JAL Japan Airlines, registration JA213J performing flight JL-2123 from Osaka Itami to Hakodate (Japan) with 66 people on board, was climbing out of Osaka when the crew stopped the climb at about FL130 due to indications of a possible bleed air leak from the left hand engine (CF34) and returned to Osaka's Itami Airport for a safe landing.

The aircraft was repaired and after about 4 hours on the ground departed for flight JL-2237 to Yamagata (Japan) with 38 people on board, reached FL250 this time but again needed to return to Osaka due to a bleed air leak. The aircraft landed safely.

JAL reported following the occurrences maintenance found the interface gasket for the engine bleed air system was broken. An immediate fleet wide inspection of 10 aircraft was conducted and identified 5 more aircraft with similiar defects in need of maintenance. A number of flight cancellations and delays were the result.
