An Air India Boeing 787-800, registration VT-ANP performing flight AI-137 from Delhi (India) to Milan Malpensa (Italy) with 167 passengers, had just levelled off at cruise level FL360 when the crew reported smoke in the cabin and returned the aircraft to Delhi for a safe landing about 40 minutes later.

The airline reported a technical malfunction in a part of the cabin as cause of the smoke.

A replacement Boeing 787-800 registration VT-ANN is estimated to reach Milan with a delay of 4 hours.
