A Caribbean Airlines Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration 9Y-TTA performing flight BW-1531 from Tobago to Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago), was on a visual approach to Port of Spain's runway 10 on downwind about abeam the runway threshold when the crew received a fire indication for the right hand engine, declared Mayday and advised they were going to continue the approach. Tower instructed all traffic on the aerodrome to hold position while emergency services began to respond. The crew shut the engine down and discharged the fire agent, continued the approach but needed to go around on final approach from about 300 feet due an unstabilized approach. The aircraft climbed to 4100 feet, the crew advised the fire indication had extinguished, and the aircraft entered a non-standard hold to avoid weather and work the checklists. The aircraft subsequently proceeded for an ILS approach to runway 10 and landed safely about 30 minutes after going around, emergency services reported no fire, and the aircraft taxied to the apron.

On Dec 26th 2015 The Aviation Herald learned that there was a hot gas leak at the turbine. The engine was repaired and the aircraft returned to service.
