A Volaris Airbus A321-200, registration XA-VLJ performing flight Y4-5722 from Mexico City to Cancun (Mexico), was climbing out of Mexico City's runway 05L when the crew stopped the climb at 12,000 feet reporting a flight controls failure after both ELACs (Elevator Aileron Computers) had failed causing the ailerons to become inoperative, elevator now being controlled by the SECs (Spoiler Elevator Computers), roll control achieved via spoilers controlled by SECs, prompting the autopilots to drop and remain offline as well. The crew entered a hold to work the related checklists and prepare landing in alternate law and after gear extension in direct law and managed a safe landing on runway 05R about 40 minutes after departure.

A replacement Airbus A321-200 registration XA-VLH reached Cancun with a delay of about 3 hours.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 13.5 hours before resuming service.
