An American Airlines Boeing 757-200, registration N200UU performing flight AA-739 from Lisbon (Portugal) to Philadelphia,PA (USA) with 171 people on board, was enroute at FL360 about 140nm north of Lajes Azores Islands (Portugal) when the crew commented it was not a good day for Amercian Airlines, they too needed to divert to Lajes. The crew declared emergency and requested to divert to Lajes reporting the loss of water, they require water after landing. The aircraft began to descend towards Lajes but after receiving message from their dispatch decided to cancel the emergency and return to Lisbon at FL150 for a safe landing about 4 hours after departure and about 2 hours after turning around.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Lisbon about 5.5 hours after landing.
