A Westjet Boeing 737-800, registration C-FWIJ performing flight WS-428 from Edmonton,AB to Toronto,ON (Canada) with 177 people on board, departed Edmonton's runway 02. While on approach to Toronto the crew advised they probably had suffered a tyre separation on departure from Edmonton and requested emergency services on stand by. The aircraft landed safely on Toronto's runway 15L.

The Canadian TSB reported that a nose wheel tyre recap had separated from the tyre, the tyre remained inflated. The aircraft sustained additional damage to the E/E bay door, the nose landing gear WOW harness, TCAS antenna and the number two engine abradable coating of fan shroud. Due to the evidence of foreign object damage (FOD) a borescopic inspection of the #2 engine was conducted but found no evidence of internal damage.
