A Gulf Air Airbus A320-200, registration A9C-AC performing flight GF-53 from Chennai (India) to Bahrain (Bahrain), was taxiing onto the runway for departure when the crew decided to return to the apron after a male passenger (35) had been stung into his hand by a scorpion.

The patient, who during taxi had reached into the pocket of his coat where the scorpion supposedly was hiding, was treated at the airport and cleared to resume the flight but decided to cancel his journey. The scorpion fell onto the aircraft floor and was crushed by fellow passengers.

The aircraft reached Bahrain with a delay of one hour.
