Vietnam A321 at Guangzhou on Mar 2nd 2015, runway incursion forces high speed reject

A Vietnam Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration VN-A360 performing flight VN-502 from Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) to Guangzhou (China), landed on Guangzhou's runway 02R, vacated the runway via high speed turn off Y10 and taxied to the apron via taxiways Y and P crossing runway 02L from holding point P4 to P3 without clearance.

A Shandong Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration B-5332 performing flight SC-1170 from Guangzhou to Jinan (China), was cleared for takeoff and was accelerating for takeoff on runway 02L when the Vietnamese A321 entered the runway prompting ATC to instruct the Boeing to stop, the crew rejected takeoff at high speed (about 120 knots) and managed to stop the aircraft on the runway about abeam high speed turn off A5 approximately 500 meters short of the A321. Emergency services responded, checked and cooled the brakes, the aircraft returned to the apron.

VN-A360 was able to depart for the return flight VN-503 on time about 100 minutes after landing.

B-5332 was able to depart Guangzhou about 4 hours after rejecting takeoff and reached Jinan with a delay of 245 minutes.

On Feb 5th 2015 Guangzhou opened their third runway, renamed former western runway 02L/20R to 01/19, renamed eastern former runway 02R/20L to 02L/20R and named the new most eastern runway 02R/20L.

Runways 02L/20R and 02R/20L are both 3800 meters/12460 feet long, runway 01/19 3600 meters/11800 feet. The distance from threshold runway 02L to crossing taxiway P is about 2520 meters/8265 feet.
