A Vietnam Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration VN-A360 performing flight VN-209 from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), was climbing out of Hanoi when the crew stopped the climb at FL230 due to loud unusual noise in the cockpit and returned to Hanoi for a safe landing about 35 minutes after departure.

Ground personnel discovered that the cover of the static port at the left side of the nose had not been removed, with neither ground staff nor the first officer performing the walk around prior to departure detecting the still attached cover and its red ribbon "remove before flight" hanging down.

The information The Aviation Herald received does not permit to conclude whether the crew detected unusual/disagreeing indications at the associated pitot system (e.g. altitude, vertical speed, airspeed).

The aircraft departed again after about 2 hours on the ground and reached Ho Chi Minh City with a delay of about 2.5 hours.
