An ATI Air Transport International Boeing 757-200 freighter, registration N531UA performing flight ATN-1817 from Portland,OR to Seattle Boeing Field,WA (USA) with 2 crew, departed Portland's runway 10R when during the initial climb the crew declared emergency reporting a bad vibration, subsequently reporting they just had lost an engine (PW2037). The aircraft positioned for an immediate return and landed safely on runway 10L about 10 mintes after departure. A runway inspection of runway 10R revealed some foreign object debris. The crew indicated that unless emergency services spot any fire they would return to the apron, emergency services reported no apparent fire and the aircraft taxied to the apron.

The FAA reported the aircraft struck birds on departure and lost power in one of the engines.

The airport reported that the remains of five pintail ducks were recovered from the departure runway.
