Provincial DH8C at St. John's on Oct 31st 2014, near collision with flying object

A Provincial Airlines de Havilland Dash 8-300, registration C-GYCV performing flight PB-922 from Deer Lake,NL to St. John's, NL (Canada), was on final approach to St. John's runway 16 when the crew noticed the lights of what appeared to be a small westbound aircraft ahead near the airport. When the object turned north, the crew confirmed there was no TCAS target and queried ATC, who neither had the object visually nor on radar. While descending through 300 feet AGL the Dash crew observed the object passing within 100 feet to the right of the Dash 8, the crew continued for a safe landing on runway 16.

The Canadian TSB reported the object appeared to be a lighted model aircraft. The crew reported the near collision and landed uneventfully.
