A Chautauqua Airlines Embraer ERJ-140 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N299SK performing flight RP-5325/AA-5325 from Chicago O'Hare,IL to Traverse City,MI (USA) with 45 people on board, was on a visual approach to Traverse City's runway 10 descending from 3500 to 3000 feet about 10nm out when a bird impacted the aircraft near the first officer's windshield puncturing the airframe just underneath the first officer's windshield and coming through the wall left of the first officer's feet. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on runway 10. There were no injuries.

On Oct 3rd 2014 the NTSB reported the aircraft sustained substantial damage to the windshield, skins, frames and internal supports in the area near the first officer's windshield. The NTSB rated the occurrence an accident and opened an investigation.
