A Lufthansa Airbus A380-800, registration D-AIMI performing flight LH-572 (dep Aug 19th) from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to Johannesburg (South Africa), was enroute over Africa when a generator failed. The crew continued the flight to Johannesburg for a safe landing.

The aircraft was unable to depart for the return flight LH-573 however, the generator needed to be replaced.

A replacement Airbus A380-800 registration D-AIMD, that had arrived as next day's LH-572 taking spare parts and maintenance personnel to Johannesburg performed the return flight LH-573D of Aug 20th departing in the morning of Aug 21st and reached Frankfurt with a delay of 16.5 hours.

D-AIMI was able to depart as flight LH-573 of Aug 21st on schedule after about 35 hours on the ground in Johannesburg.
