An Eastern Australia de Havilland Dash 8-300 on behalf of Qantas, registration VH-TQM performing flight QF-2034 from Sydney,NS to Armidale,NS (Australia) with 44 people on board, was climbing out of Sydney when passengers alerted the crew that one of the right hand main gear tyres had separated from the rim of the wheel. The crew continued the flight to Armidale but decided to abort the approach and to divert to Tamworth for the better facilities available at Tamworth and performed a safe landing at Tamworth.

The passengers were bussed to Armidale.
