Olympic DH8D at Ioannina on May 16th 2014, burst tyres on backtrack

An Olympic Air de Havilland Dash 8-400 on behalf of Aegean Airlines, registration SX-OBF performing flight A3-160 from Athens to Ioannina (Greece), had safely landed on Ioannina's runway and slowed to taxi speed when the aircraft attempted to turn around on the runway to backtrack to the terminal. While turning around a first tyre burst, shortly afterwards a second tyre disabling the aircraft on the runway.

The runway and aerodrome was closed until the tyres had been replaced and the aircraft was towed to the apron.

A replacement aircraft performed the return flight A3-161 and reached Athens with a delay of 4 hours.

The incident aircraft was able to position to Athens later in the evening.
