A Jazz de Havilland Dash 8-300, registration C-GUON performing flight QK-8168 from Calgary,AB to Edmonton,AB (Canada) with 41 people on board, was climbing through 12,000 feet out of Calgary when the right hand engine (PW123) flamed out causing significant yaw. All engine parameters dropped to zero. The crew advanced the power levers to maximum power setting, the engines restarted and all parameters returned to normal. The crew aborted the climb and returned to Calgary for a safe landing.

The Canadian TSB reported that the engine ignition had been selected on due to icing conditions. Following the return maintenance was able to duplicate the problem during ground runs and found traces of water in the right hand wing fuel tank. Miantenance examined the engine wiring and replaced fuel pump, fuel control unit and fuel filters. The engine inlet anti-ice boots and heating were checked with no faults found. The aircraft was subsequently test flown with no recurrence of the problem.
