A South African Airways Airbus A340-600, registration ZS-SNC performing flight SA-261 from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to Johannesburg (South Africa), departed Frankfurt's runway 18 without apparent incident and was enroute when the crew was informed tyre debris was recovered from the departure runway and was identified to belong to their flight. The crew continued the flight to Johannesburg, requested emergency services on stand by and landed safely on Johannesburg's runway 21R about 9:50 hours after departure. The aircraft stopped on the runway, emergency services attended the aircraft, that was subsequently towed to the apron.

A passenger reported the captain announced about 30 minutes prior to arrival that they had burst a tyre on departure from Frankfurt, they would be "welcomed" by fire engines which would check for possible damage after landing. After landing and checks by emergency services the captain announced they would be towed to the apron, maneouvering with the burst tyre would be difficult.
