Passengers reported the aircraft diverted due to an engine failure. About 130 of them were still in Mumbai two days later with no indication of when they would be able to continue to Kuala Lumpur. Their passports had been seized, they haven't been rebooked onto other flights and no replacement aircraft arrived.
The airline reported the aircraft diverted due to an unforeseen technical malfunction. Passengers were provided with accomodation while the airline is sorting out onward travel. The airline stated: "Despite proactive efforts to assist passengers in finding alternative travel options on the same day from Mumbai including arrangements with other carriers, these efforts were unfortunately not successful due to the need to adhere to local immigration policies in Mumbai." All passengers were taken to Kuala Lumpur on Nov 25th and 26th.
The occurrence aircraft made it to Kuala Lumpur as flight MH-5017 on Nov 29th 2023.
