A Malaysia Airlines Airbus A330-300, registration 9M-MTN performing flight MH-165 from Doha (Qatar) to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), was enroute at FL370 over the Arabian Sea about 180nm west of Mumbai (India) when the crew decided to divert to Mumbai due to an engine (PW4168A) failure, the crew shut the engine down. The aircraft landed safely on Mumbai's runway 27 about 35 minutes later.

Passengers reported the aircraft diverted due to an engine failure. About 130 of them were still in Mumbai two days later with no indication of when they would be able to continue to Kuala Lumpur. The airline stated: "Despite proactive efforts to assist passengers in finding alternative travel options on the same day from Mumbai including arrangements with other carriers, these efforts were unfortunately not successful due to the need to adhere to local immigration policies in Mumbai." All passengers were taken to Kuala Lumpur on Nov 25th and 26th.

The occurrence aircraft made it to Kuala Lumpur as flight MH-5017 on Nov 29th 2023.
