A Lufthansa Airbus A321-100, registration D-AIRK performing flight LH-1530 from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to Palma Mallorca,SP (Spain), was climbing out of Frankfurt's runway 18 when the crew stopped the climb at about FL140 after the left hand engine (V2530) ingested a bird. The aircraft returned to Frankfurt for a safe landing on runway 25C about 20 minutes after departure.

According to information The Aviation Herald received the left hand engine continued to develop normal thrust however showed increased N1 vibrations and some unusual whistling engine noise. A number of fan blade tips were found bent, traces of blood as well as smell in the engine core suggest the bird went through the hot section. There was no smell in the cabin as the airconditioning was done by APU throughout the flight.

A replacement A321-100 registration D-AIRC reached Palma with a delay of about 3 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Frankfurt about 10 hours after landing back.
